Squirrels opens at 1st Burntwood

On 5th February 1st Burntwood Scout Group launched ‘Squirrels’ which is aimed at children in early years aged 4-6 year old. 1st Burntwood’s squirrel drey section is called Saturn Squirrels and is led by Section Leader Red Squirrel and a team of 5 Assistant Squirrel Leaders and 2 Young Leaders.

There has being an incredible response since it’s launch and the section now has 12 young Squirrels with more children on the waiting list Meetings are every Saturday during term time, 10am -11am at the Scout Hut in Elder Lane.

The squirrel programme has been specially developed by The Scouts Association in pilot schemes up and down the country.   The meetings are grounded in teaching skills for life through practical, engaging and creative activities whilst being fun and inclusive.  The squirrel uniform is red and, like our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, Squirrels can earn badges.  The highest award in Squirrels is the Chief Scout Acorn Award which is made up of four challenge badges.  Squirrels can also earn activity badges and staged badges.
